Institutional Profile

The Southwest Florida Institute for Public Service is comprised of three seperate Public Safety Academies: The Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy, The Fort Myers Fire Academy, and the Southwest Florida Public Works Academy.

The Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy is certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission to train students to become Florida State Certified Police Officers, Correctional Officers, and Probation & Parole Officers. In addition to training basic recruits, the Southwest Florida Criminal Justice Academy also provides Advanced & Specialized training courses which are designed to provide for the continuing education and training needs of Officers after their basic certification.

The Fort Myers Fire Academy is certified by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards & Training to train students to become Florida State Certified Fire Fighters. In addition to training basic recruits, the Fort Myers Fire Academy also provides Advanced & Specialized training courses which are designed to provide for the continuing education and training needs of Firefighters after their basic certification.

The Southwest Florida Public Works Academy is a Florida Department of Transportation Certified Training Academy. Under this Academy our students are certified in various aspects of public works to include Work Zone Traffic Control, Signals, Signs & Markings, and Pilot Escort.
